Since its foundation, VisMederi has been actively involved in national and international research projects aimed at advancing scientific knowledge and supporting evidence-based decision-making in healthcare. Through its participation in multidisciplinary initiatives, the company has contributed its expertise in the assessment of vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and public health interventions, while strengthening collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and healthcare stakeholders worldwide.

FLUCOP

VisMederi is a key partner in the European project FLUCOP (Standardization and Development of Assays for Assessment of Influenza Vaccine Correlates of Protection), an international consortium focused on improving how influenza vaccine efficacy is evaluated. The project aims to harmonize serological testing protocols—such as HAI and ELLA—and to develop new tools for defining correlates of protection. Within this framework, VisMederi plays an active role in clinical studies, immunogenicity assessment, and the development of standardized protocols to measure immune responses. VisMederi also contributes to the standardization of core influenza assays, including hemagglutination inhibition (HAI) and virus microneutralization (MN), supporting the generation of reliable and comparable data across studies. Funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), the FLUCOP consortium brings together universities, vaccine manufacturers, and public health institutions to advance influenza vaccine research and strengthen global evaluation standards.

FLUniversal

The FLUniversal consortium aims to develop DeltaFLU, an advanced, self-adjuvanting influenza vaccine administered as a nasal spray, as universal flu vaccine that protects against all influenza virus strains. FLUniversal brings together leading academic institutions, a national health institute, and industry partners to develop next-generation influenza vaccines and advance vaccine development practices. The consortium combines complementary expertise across the full value chain—from strain generation and manufacturing to preclinical and clinical studies, human challenge models, and advanced immunological tools. Within this highly interdisciplinary partnership, VisMederi contributes as a specialized enterprise in life sciences and public health. Its key role focuses on GCLP-accredited sample analysis, a critical component of clinical trials. VisMederi’s proven expertise and accreditation ensure high-quality, reliable immunogenicity data, supporting the robustness and success of the project.

INDIGO

INDIGO is a global research and innovation project funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 and the India’s Department of Biotechnology, bringing together 17 partners from Europe, India, and the United States. The program focuses on developing next-generation influenza vaccines that are low-dose, cost-effective, and capable of inducing strong, durable immune responses—improving accessibility in low- and middle-income countries. The project aims to deliver an affordable, high-efficacy seasonal influenza vaccine in the near term, while also advancing innovative vaccine concepts to address current technological challenges. Within this initiative, VisMederi contributes its specialized expertise in immunoassay development and clinical sample testing, supporting the generation of high-quality immunogenicity data essential for advancing these next-generation vaccine strategies.

Inno4vac

Inno4vac is an interdisciplinary project funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI2) that aims to accelerate vaccine development by integrating advances in immunology, big data and artificial intelligence, 3D tissue models, and human infection models. By combining cutting-edge scientific approaches under a single framework, the project addresses key bottlenecks in vaccine development, helping to reduce timelines and de-risk the process. The consortium brings together leading experts across clinical research, immunology, microbiology, systems biology, mathematical modelling, and regulatory science. Within the project, VisMederi offer its expertise in immunoassay development and clinical sample testing to support the comparison of existing standard immune assays and next generation RSV and/or Flu infection model-based assays, strengthening the reliability and innovation of vaccine evaluation approaches.

NOFLU

The NOFLU consortium, coordinated by NIVI Development — the R&D arm of the Danish Novo Nordisk Foundation Initiative for Vaccines and Immunity (NIVI) - brings together seven partners across four European countries, with the goal of advancing next-generation vaccines with a specific emphasis on respiratory immunity.NOFLU is centered on innovative vaccination strategies designed to induce mucosal immunity in the respiratory tract, the primary entry point for respiratory viruses. Strengthening this first line of defence represents a key step toward enhancing European pandemic preparedness, particularly against influenza strains with pandemic potential. The program includes a Phase 1 clinical trial of an mRNA vaccine candidate targeting the influenza H5N8 strain.VisMederi’s participation in the consortium reinforces its role as a trusted scientific partner in generating clinical evidence and defining robust immunological endpoints from early-stage development onward. Within the project, VisMederi leverages its expertise in immunological assessment and early clinical development to support the collection, validation, and interpretation of clinical immunology data, enabling informed decision-making and accelerating the advancement of next-generation pandemic influenza vaccines to later stagesThrough collaboration with leading partners across Europe, such as Ethris, Statens Serum Institut, Evonik Health Care, ECRAID e Bavarian Nordic, VisMederi contributes to advancing innovative vaccine platforms and strengthening preparedness for future influenza threats.

PATH

The collaboration between PATH and VisMederi began in 2016 and has since expanded across multiple projects focused on seasonal and pandemic influenza, as well as other infectious diseases.PATH is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing global health equity. Operating in more than 70 countries, PATH works closely with governments, communities, and private-sector partners to develop and deliver technologies, strengthen health systems, and expand access to essential health services. A core focus of its work is infectious diseases, including vaccine development for diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, and emerging viral threats. Over the years, organizations such as VisMederi have supported PATH’s efforts, contributing scientific expertise and laboratory capabilities to advance research, evaluation, and implementation of solutions aimed at protecting vulnerable populations worldwide. At present, the collaboration is further reinforced through participation in Pase 1 and Phase 2/3 studies involving multiple stakeholders, all sharing the common goal of improving global health. Together, PATH and VisMederi contribute to the development and delivery of life-saving vaccines for women, children, and communities worldwide, with particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Current activities include studies on measles and rubella ELISA assessments, yellow fever neutralization assays (PRNT), and anti-Vi ELISA assessments.

PEDVAC-iNTS

VisMederi is a partner in the PEDVAC-iNTS consortium, a 4-year European Union–funded project under the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership 2 (EDCTP2) programme, focused on advancing the clinical development of a vaccine against invasive non-typhoidal salmonellosis (iNTS)—a neglected disease that remains a major public health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative, coordinated by Sclavo Vaccine Associan of Siena, in collaboration with international partners from Europe and Africa, brings together seven organizations including academic institutions, research centers, SMEs, and non-profit organizations. In 2024, the project launched a Phase I/II pediatric clinical study in Ghana, where the disease is endemic, with the goal of advancing the iNTS-GMMA vaccine to Phase II. Within the consortium, VisMederi plays a key role by providing its expertise in clinical studies and laboratory analysis, supporting the evaluation of immune responses and the generation of robust immunogenicity data. Participation in PEDVAC-iNTS reflects VisMederi’s strong commitment to global health research and to accelerating vaccine development for vulnerable populations while strengthening international collaboration and disease awareness in resource-limited settings.
