BioFire FilmArray® Torch System (Multiplex Real Time RT-PCR)
The BioFire FilmArray® Torch System is an automated, multiplex, sample‑to‑answer molecular platform designed for the rapid, qualitative detection of multiple pathogens from a single clinical sample. The system integrates nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, real‑time PCR amplification, and automated result interpretation within a closed workflow, minimizing hands‑on time and reducing contamination risk. Utilizing syndromic testing panels, the FilmArray Torch enables simultaneous detection of a broad range of viral and bacterial targets, including respiratory viruses such as influenza A and B, RSV, SARS‑CoV‑2, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza viruses, and rhinovirus/enterovirus; bacterial pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae; gastrointestinal pathogens including norovirus, rotavirus, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Campylobacter spp., and Clostridioides difficile; and central nervous system pathogens targeted by meningitis/encephalitis panels. The platform is widely used in VisMederi for clinical research, epidemiological surveillance, and vaccine or challenge study support requiring rapid and standardized pathogen identification. When implemented and validated within an appropriate quality framework, the BioFire FilmArray Torch supports EMA and ICH expectations for molecular diagnostic methods used in regulated and non‑regulated research environments.
